神奇的金屬樹─鉛樹及銅樹的研究

在一次旅遊活動中,我們在百貨公司裡,無意中在商品廚裡看見在透明塑膠管中生長著美麗,光亮燦閃如樹枝狀及珊瑚狀的金屬樹,我們在嘆美欣賞之餘,推想這樣美麗燦爛的金屬樹到底怎樣製作?它的製作原理如何?有的細長如樹枝狀,有的大如珊瑚狀,為何有這樣的差異?如何使它成長更長的樹枝狀或育成更大更美的其他形狀?又製作時須要那些原料?那些條件?……我們就發生這種種的疑問,因此回家後開始搜集資料後得知這些金屬樹製作原理與種種疑題與理化課本第十九章19~2元素對氧的化學活性與金屬鹽的還原原理相關,因此我們就利用聯課活動,寒暑假時間進一步從事研究這「金屬樹─鉛樹及銅樹的研究」。

鈣是英雄~骨湯Ca2+ 釋放量之探討

中國人的飲食文化中,骨湯一直被視為餐桌上富含營養價值的佳餚,也是攝取鈣質的良好來源,而骨湯的調味方式千變萬化,要如何才能喝到最多的鈣質呢?我們針對骨湯熬煮的各種環境及調味添加物的關係做一系列的實驗探討。結果發現有效控制熬煮時間、水量及添加適當的調味料,都能有效增加骨湯中Ca2+含量。

極性及非極性分子的研究

在化學課本(束華書局第七章)上講到化學分子極性與非極性分子,其內容是電偶極向量和不為零者為極性分子,反之為非極性分子。同時,在上課時老師所放映的幻燈片(東華書局製作的極性非極性幻燈片),看到用毛皮摩擦過的塑膠棒或用絲絹摩擦過的玻璃棒對各種樣品(乙醇、丙酮等,預先放入長滴管內而連續流下來)靠近來辨別極性與非極性,若能使樣品下降的運動軌跡偏向者為極性,不偏向者為非極性。但卻沒有比較各種樣品極性的大小,更進一步的當時我們就在想,是否能用更適當的實驗方法,找出極性之大小與其他的物性或化性等之關係。於是我們開始請教化學老師更詳細的對我們講解極性與非極性的原因、理論、特性等等。由找一些資料(如樣品的沸點、比重、分子質量等)。囚為樣品若有極性,會被摩擦過的塑膠棒或玻璃棒所吸引而偏向,那就表示與電力有關,所以我們又請了物理老師來指導,有關電學、力學等常識。最後經過多次的改進才完成這次的實驗。

Crying Babies

a. PURPOSE: Do babies between 0 – 3 months have certain sound reflexes that can be interpreted as a language? Can parents be helped to understand their newborn babies better? Are parents aware of infantile speech patterns and language acquisition in babies? b. PROCEDURES: 70 Babies of different cultures were tested to determine if the 5 crying-sounds can be an indication of the baby's need. Questionnaires and information were given out at hospitals and clinics. Doctors, paediatricians, sisters and parents were involved in my project. DVD's were made to show and explain the different sounds. c. DATA: I obtained my data from the questionnaires, interviews with parents, doctors, paediatricians and the staff working in the labour-wards. 70 Babies were tested (68 responded) and I listened to every cryingsound to make sure that there are only 5 different sounds. I made a DVD from all the sounds of the babies that I've tested. Data were also gathered from science. d. CONCLUSIONS: According to all the research and sources, I can positively say that a person can identify the reason why babies (0-3 months) are crying. Babies of any culture, have universal sounds that indicate their needs. The different sounds are: EH – upper gas, EAIRH – lower gas, HEH – discomfort, OWH –tired, NEH – hungry.

Biological control of Aphis craccivora Koch., a common pest of the cow pea Vigna unguiculata(L.)

The purpose of this project is to control the Aphis craccivora Koch. on the cow pea Vigna unguiculata (L.) by using two predators, the earwigs (black) beetle, Proeus simulans Stallan and the ladybird beetle, Micraspis discolor (F.). The experiments were carried out in the closed system in the laboratory and in the opened field with various ages of Proeus simulans Stallan and Micraspis discolor (F.) from the 1st - 4th stage of embryo to the adult form. Prior to the study in the field, the capability of the predators, Proeus simulans Stallan and Micraspis discolor (F.), that can eat the Aphis craccivora Koch. within a period of time was set up in the laboratory. The result showed that the 1st-4th stage of embryo of Micraspis discolor (F.) can eat 8.46+1.25 – 12.50+0.60, at 95% confidence, Aphis craccivora Koch. per day, while its adult can eat at the average number of 43.66 + 0.78, at 95% confidence, per day. The 1st–3rd stage of Proeus simulans Stallan embryo and the adult form can eat Aphis craccivora Koch. at the average number of 2.37+0.33 – 3.74+0.29 and 9.84+0.36, at 95% confidence, per day, respectively. This data showed that Micraspis discolor (F.) was more efficiency as predator than Proeus simulans Stallan. The insecticide activity of these two predators in the closed field (8 m x 9 m) was then determined. The number of Aphis craccivora Koch. on the plant was randomly counted everyweek for 10 weeks. It was found that the number of Aphis on the experimented and control groups were 16.20+4.30 and 2,582.00+102.40, at 95% confidence, per plant, respectively. The result support the efficiency of the two predators in controlling the pest. When the experiment was set up at the two opened field (6 m x 30 m, each field), 27.51+2.74 and 52.11+5.21, at 95% confidence, of Aphis craccivora Koch. were found on the plant of experimented and control groups, respectively, at the 10th week. The lower number of Aphis on the control plant might possilbly due to the interference from natural predators. From this study, the biological control of Aphis craccivora Koch. on the cow pea Vigna unguiculata (L.) could be achieved by using Proeus simulans Stallan and Micraspis discolor (F.). To avoid the use of chemical insecticides, biological control should be trained to farmers to help reduce the environmental problem.

Palatability Tests on Rana Chalconota Tadpoles

The skin of amphibians can secrete poisons from glands which reduces Palatability or sometimes result in rejection by predators. My research serves to confim the hypothesis that the pair of glands located on the ventral side of Rana Chalconota Tadpoles acts as an anti-presatory structure. Their palatability was measured by the consumption of them at developmental stages intermediate and post-metamorphic by Channa gachua and Giant Dragonfly Nymph. A known-palatable tadpole, Rana malesiana, was used as a control.

酸雨知多少

本研究主要在探討酸雨,藉由氣象局網站資料去分析台灣酸雨發生情形,並透過實地蒐集了解家鄉的雨水是否是酸雨,更藉由一連串實驗探討影響酸雨發生的原因。另外,以實地探訪與親自實驗做比較,我們發現氣象站檢測雨水的方式有待改進,因為氣象站一天只量一次pH值,而每段時間所下的雨pH值皆不相同,而且是點的位置會影響期pH值,藉由這個研究有了意外的發現,並且透過實驗,我們了解酸雨對植物及金屬的危害,在此呼籲大家要愛護環境,避免製造空氣污染,才能享有乾淨舒適的生活空間。

將錯就錯的knuth 河內塔

在這篇報告中,我們探索了「將錯就錯的Knuth 河內塔問題」。傳統河內塔問題在電腦科學上佔有重要的地位,是一個極具內涵的模型。由於這個模型的深厚數學內涵,使其和巴斯卡三角形建立了緊密的連結,且利用這個緊密的數學連結,設計出復原任意起始狀態的良好演算法。Knuth 河內塔起因於數學家Knuth 在論文[3]中,描述傳統的河內塔問題時所發生的一次筆誤。在這個新的規則之下,我們意外發現Knuth 河內塔存在著一個和傳統河內塔平行的模型,此模型在電腦科學及數學上有著完全不同於傳統河內塔的內涵。我們的研究主要如下:(分別為內文中的四大段)(一) 結構分析。移動環所需要的次數,如何移動環並分析每一次動作所動的環,及每個環何時被動到並給出演算法。(二) 正整數的分割。所有的移動步驟將正整數做了一個新的分割(Partition);此分割模k之後有良好的循環性質。(三) 費波那契真分數的排序。這個正整數的分割形成一張表,這張表恰好就是分子分母皆為費波那契真分數之排序。(四) 隨意亂排的Knuth 河內塔復原演算法。在Knuth 河內塔的規定下將起始狀態改變,找出良好的復原演算法,並分析。 In this project we study the "Knuth Hanoi Tower", which is motivated by a typo in a paper of Knuth. This inadvertently typo leads to a new rule of moving the discs on the Hanoi Tower (see introduction below for definition). Although seemingly similar to the traditional Hanoi-Tower problem, it turns out that under this rule the "Knuth Hanoi Tower" problem consists of amazing properties, and is totally different from the traditional one. Our study focuses on the following directions: (1) Structure analyzing: We analysis the sequences recording the disc moving and offer enumeration results and recurrsive/non-recurrsive algorithms. (2) Partition of N: The moving sequence forms a partition (a table) of N, which has an amazing congruence property. (3) The order of Fibonacci proper fraction: The row/column of the partition table is, even more amazing, exactly the order when sorting the Fibonacci proper fraction with fixed denominator/numerator. (4) The Restoration of an arbitrary initial state: We offer an efficient algorithm for restoring any initial state of discs. We hope that our study on the "Knuth Hanoi Tower" offers a simple, neat, and new example on the theory of Algorithm, Number theory and Combinatorics.

自製軟彈簧研究週期和質量之關係

(一)物理學上探討簡諧運動時,最常見的問題是質量m的物體繫於一端固定的彈簧的另一端,物體受F=-kx的恢復力作用時,簡諧運動週期是多少?高中學生第一個想到的答案是T=2π√m(1)/k。大一所唸的 Hal-lidy 著之 Physics (1964 年版) (2) 316 頁第30題作業:“質量 m8的彈簧掛上質量 m 的物體時簡諧運動之週期T=2π√m+m8/3/k試證之"。本題作業於1974年版(3)已刪除,全國第廿二屆科展曾有證明本公式 的作品參展(4)。(二)作者於全國第十八屆科展參展 作品中(5)一條用來測表面張力的自製彈簧,力常數相當小,水平放置時有一條用來測表面張力的 13.5公分,鉛直吊起,由於本身重量作用,長度達32.45公分,用它測振動週期時,可振動 100 次仍未停止(阻尼 Damping 甚小),當不掛任何物體時測得的週期不但 T=2π√m/k無法解釋,且和 T = 2π√m+m8/3/k 所求得的結果亦相去甚遠,引起作者進一步研究的興趣。

「蜊」大無窮-文蛤(Meretrix lusoria)生態資料及閉殼肌拉力探討

本研究探討文蛤的生態資料與影響閉殼肌拉力的原因。分組實驗中,分成四組:10g以下(30個)、10-15g(46個)、15-20g(32個)和20g以上(17個)四組,總數128個;臺灣蜆分成兩組,共29個。新鮮度實驗中發現在活活的組別比值(高頻/低頻)均高於死死組別,顯示可從聲音辨識文蛤的新鮮度。拉力實驗中,(1)文蛤的拉力為2117g,臺灣蜆為1368g,影響最大的是蛤肉重量。(2)單位拉力會隨著總重而遞減。(3)蛤肉比例在10-15g有最高比例(18%),臺灣蜆為18.7%。(4)兩物種的蛤肉含水量約為50%。(5)閉殼肌斷裂位置90.7%發生在鈍端,臺灣蜆則接近50%。(6)文蛤閉殼肌平均重量為0.18g(尖)、0.07g(鈍),比值為2.57,臺灣蜆尖端為0.036g,鈍端為0.023g,比值為1.67,顯示一般人認為文蛤閉殼肌兩邊相似是錯誤的。

北台灣和日本北海道地震之比較分析

台灣北部和日本北海道地區皆位於板塊碰撞隱沒帶上,我們由ANSS 資料庫,下載這兩個地區近40年內的地震發生時間、經度、緯度、深度與規模大小等數據,加以整理,以電腦Excel程式繪製成震源、震央隨經緯度之分佈圖、規模大小、發生次數之折線圖、圓餅圖等;經過了一連串觀察、分析步驟,比較日本與台灣地震在時間與空間的表現,並以取log 值的方式處理地震發生次數繪出的圖形,以理解地震發生的規則,再比較兩地區累積能量隨時間釋放的型態。利用我們所繪製的圖形加以合併自己所學的知識,討論其中的差異。由能量釋放的不同表現、隱沒帶的地震深度、板塊在彎曲下插時的斜率、地震活動次數與深度等不同,比較分析北台灣和日北北海道地震的確有地域性差異的特質。

當哈利遇上莎莉!---論地形效應對颱風結構與路徑的影響

本研究利用37個西行侵台的颱風個案,分析其接近台灣陸地時,颱風強度和路徑的變化情形,並尋求可能的原因和進行推論。獲得幾項重要研究結果如下: 一、 76%的颱風中心登陸陸地後的12小時內,其近中心最大風速有明顯減弱的趨勢。 二、 颱風登陸後受到地形的阻擋而使路徑較原先方向偏南的情形最常見,佔個案數的68%。而颱風路徑的偏移角度最大可達70度以上。 三、 颱風路徑會南偏的類型常伴隨有「近中心風速較大」和「七級風暴風半徑較大」等特徵。 四、 颱風路徑南偏的可能原因有「台灣東南部形成的副低壓」和「通道效應」。 五、 水槽實驗的模擬可用來類比颱風外圍環流和台灣地形間形成的通道效應。
