鉤盲蛇(Ramphotyphlops braminus)行為探奇

我們抓到鉤盲蛇後(R. braminus),我們開始對這種小生物產生好奇,所以先後做出鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)對周圍環境的熱源、光源、溼度、壓迫感、食性及生殖等實驗,我們也模擬出鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)的生活環境。而藉著這次的實驗,我們得到了,鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)喜好生活在濕度高、壓力大、陰暗、富含腐殖土、落葉、枯木等可隱身的地方,且在進行隔光、隔熱、驅敵、壓迫力等實驗時實,探討出鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)為負趨光性、正趨溫性;會以尾部尖端刺擊敵人,並排出排泄物藉以驅敵;在吃白蟻時,牠們會先將獵物纏死或壓死,再將白蟻捲入口內加以吞食;且鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)的泄殖腔與其他雌蛇的泄殖腔大小較相似,證明了鉤盲蛇(R. braminus)為孤雌生殖。。

奈米使你變美了!-奈米二氧化鈦在化妝品上的應用

奈米的科學與技術將是21 世紀所要探討的方向。在了解奈米粒子的表面效應、小尺寸效應、量子尺寸效應、宏觀量子隧道效應後,發現其應用甚廣,諸如再生物、醫學、環境、國防、工業產品等方面,都將佔有很重要的地位。我們主要是利用溶膠-凝膠法來製造二氧化鈦奈米粒子,並了解二氧化鈦奈米粒子可吸收紫外線及光催化反應,將廣泛應用電子、紡織、塑膠、橡膠,空氣淨化及廢水處理方面。本實驗將利用二氧化鈦的吸收紫外線特性,來研究其應用在化妝品上面。The science and technology of nanomater will be the direction we will explore in the 21st century. After understanding surface area effect of nanometer particle, Small size effect, Quantum effect, and Macroscopic quantum tunnel effect, we can diswver the application is very far-fluing. 咦!誰把構樹的葉子捲起來了?─螟蛾寶寶捲葉習性的研究

有一天,爸爸帶我們全家去附近的後山爬山,我看到有一樑樹上面的葉子捲了起來,就摘下幾片葉子,攤開其中一片捲葉發現有一隻蟲子,當時心想:「可能是這隻蟲子吐絲把葉子捲起來的。」我開始對這種蟲子感到好奇,於是就找了三個有興趣的同學,一起研究找資料,並請老師來指導我們,希望能多認識牠。

Microbial diversity in the Mediterranean hypersaline deep-sea lake Tyro

1. Purpose of the research Characterization of bacterial and viral diversity of brine Tyro using molecular methods of identification. 2. Procedures For bacteria: 1. Amplification or multiplication of 16S rRNA gene (one of the most conservative gene) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). 2. Agarose gel electrophoresis and purification of PCR product 3. Ligation of purified PCR product into the vector pGEM-T 4. Transformation of plasmids containing an insert into competent cells E.coli XB1 5. Blue-white selection (we need white colonies, they contain the insert of interest) 6. Isolation of plasmids containing an insert of interest 7. Sequencing of inserts 8. Bioinformatics analysis: matching homologues from GeneBank database, construction of phylogenetic trees, statistical analysis. For viruses: The same methods were used for gp23 gene, which code a major head protein of T-even bacteriophages; to amplify gp23 gene a special set of primers was used, along with a standard cloning protocol described above. 3. Data 1) Two libraries of clones were obtained during analysis: lake Tyro (24 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), 10 classes) and sea water (6 OTUs, 2 classes of eubacteria). 2) The most abundant classes were: gamma-, delta-, epsilon- Proteobacteria, which is in agreement with previous reports about bacteria in brines of Mediterranean Sea. 3) The number of clones was not sufficient to obtain stable estimates of diversity, the analysis require additional data. 4) The diversity of bacteria was unexpectedly high in brine but not in the seawater, due to higher and more diverse ion composition. 5) Most of the detected bacteria in the deep-sea lake belonged to the previously undescribed (18,75%) bacteria or had unusual metabolism (43,75%). 4. Conclusions The analysis demonstrated unexpectedly high diversity of halophilic bacteria inhabiting Tyro lake. Most of bacteria presented in brine water had unique and uncommon characteristics based on information about its closest relatives. Therefore, the deep-sea hypersaline lakes of Mediterranean Sea have great potential for further investigations. Preliminary results of diversity of viruses of Tyro lake were obtained during analysis, more complete description is coming soon.

有趣的湊錢法

有一天上數學課的時候,老師忽然提出了一個問題:「用1元、s元、10元、50元和100元的錢幣湊成 1256元,有幾種湊法?」我們覺得這個問題很有趣,但是一時之問答不上來,課後三五成羣,聚在一起討論,拿出錢幣排排看,發現情形錯綜複錐、種類繫多,無從著手,於是想到分類整理,作圖解,第二天提出了許多不同的答案,…… 414種,102 種 ..九百多種,二千多種 · · · · · · · 一但都沒有 172 把攔,隨後老師告訴我們種敵很多,不只這些,要知道正確答案,須先簡化問題,列表,找出規律性,並告訴我們這種方法是以後做學問常用的方法。於是在老師的指導下,我們做了以下的研習活動。

「世紀難題-考拉茲猜想」 考拉茲猜想中循環的探討

自1930年代以來,考拉茲猜想(Collatz conjecture)一直是個未解之謎,其敘述如下:選定一個自然數,如果是偶數,則用2來除;如果是奇數,則乘以3再加1,經過有限次迭代,最後一定得到1。也就是說會得到1,4,2,1,4,2,…的數列,稱之為1-2-4循環。即使此猜想敘述簡單,卻是個橫跨世紀的難題,至近幾年才有一些證明方法出現。 其中一種證明考拉茲猜想的想法為證明所有不符合考拉茲猜想的狀況為假,而其中一種狀況為除了1-2-4循環還有其他組循環,即有些正整數在經過數次考拉茲猜想的計算後,會進入一組非1-2-4循環的循環。 因此,在此篇報告中我們透過討論每一個奇數在經由乘3再加1的計算後,所得到的偶數的2的冪次,再經由反證法證明除了1-2-4循環不會有其他組循環。

Applications of Biofuel Technologies for Third World Countries

Innovative, inexpensive, sustainable fuel for cooking and light can be produced with an anaerobic digestion biogas system. A biodigester was designed from parts that are locally available to purchase and maintain in a developing nation. The prototype was designed, built and the engineering was approved and tested. Research and testing of techniques used to produce biogas were recorded and analyzed. The digester successfully produced enough biogas to connect to a stove and burn. Research and testing continued on different ways to pressurize the biogas. A burn time of eleven minutes was recorded. A Bunsen burner was designed, again from locally available parts, in order to enhance the flame to use for cooking. The designed digester and burner worked satisfactorily to burn the biogas collected in the system. Using small scale tests, additional research and testing continued on the most efficient production of the biogas. Figure 1 shows the results of the small scale biogas testing. The results from the small scale testing showed that the best variables for producing biogas are using school compost, ie apples, bananas, oranges, cucumbers, grapefruit, grapes etc, which has been blended to acquire the most surface area with a 1:1 ratio. Figure 3 shows the results of a sample of methane (first three peaks) and of the biogas that was produced (last two peaks). The first peak is the nitrogen and the oxygen in the sample. The second peak is the methane and the third peak is carbon dioxide. The first biogas sample that was tested had no methane so there was an absence of the second peak. This was similar for Figures 4 and 5. Figure 6 shows a sample of the final biogas product which is producing methane as shown by the blue circle. Figures 3 through 5 lack a methane peak due to leaks in the biogas system and limited time within testing periods. The hypothesis was proved correct. An innovative, inexpensive, sustainable fuel for cooking and light using an anaerobic digestion system that can be built completely in developing nations such as Honduras was created. The biogas was ignited using a stove which provided heat for cooking. The biogas was not tested using a light; however, since the biogas can burn, this is theoretically possible. The final system achieved these goals.

「天上掉下來的禮物嗎?」--討論近十年來大陸沙塵暴對台灣之影響與變化趨?

In recent years, sandstorms have seriously attacked Taiwan day by day. Combining with the observations of Central Weather Bureau and the satellite images of NASA, the study has been collected the data of suspension grain in decades. And the study hopes the sandstorms’ information could be observed in early period. Still it hopes to find out the possible transmission paths in the atmosphere. Then we know how to cope with sandstorms in early time. Sandstorms attack Taiwan frequently in alternation of the spring, the autumn, and the winter. Compared with thecharts of sandstorms and the satellite images, we could broadly aware hat the moving paths of sandstorms are related to the currents and the characteristics of the atmosphere. When El Nino happens, the times of sandstorms attacking Taiwan decrease, and that increase when La Lina happens. From the observation data of acid rain, when sandstorms attack Taiwan, acid rain would diminish. Combining actual Measures and satellite data in the future, maybe we can establish a prediction mechanism of sandstorms.近年來,大陸沙塵暴侵襲台灣的情況日趨嚴重影響。本研究中收集了近十年來懸浮顆粒資料,配合中央氣象局所觀測的資料與美國太空總署的衛星影像資料,希望能夠在早期觀測發現大陸地區沙塵暴訊息,和沙塵暴所帶至大氣中的懸浮顆粒可能傳輸的路徑期能早期應映。發生沙塵暴侵臺事件的季節,主要在秋冬及冬春兩季交替期間發生的次數為最多。由沙塵暴監測氣候圖表及美國太空總署的衛星影像進行綜合比對之後,可大致瞭解大陸沙塵可能的移動路徑與大氣環流及特徵有關。聖嬰現象(El Nino)發生時,侵襲臺灣的沙塵暴次數會減少。在「反聖嬰現象」(La Lina)發生時,侵襲臺灣的次數相對增加。由酸雨中得知大陸沙 塵暴侵襲台灣時,酸雨情況會減緩。未來結合實測及衛星資料或許我們可以預報大陸沙塵暴的侵襲。

以彈性體模型評估心血管疾病之新方法初探

我們根據物理學的彈性體振動模型發現:主動脈硬化程度可由測量主動脈相對於心臟運動的延遲時間分析得知。我們除了由樣品之超音波影像分析驗證此一觀念之外,還用一自製模型進行實驗,模擬血管厚度對延遲時間的影響,實驗結果與理論相吻合,證實了彈性體模型之可靠性。在診斷方面,此方法可用目前臨床使用的心臟超音波儀直接進行測量,使得它具有方便、普遍的優點;而且可由體外的胸前超音波掃描(TTE)進行觀測,具有非侵入性、免除受測者的不適及避免副作用,此外,能定量分析、早期診斷、鑑別度高也是此方法重要的優點。According to the elastic oscillation model of physics, we found that the aorta stiffness could be obtained by measuring the delay time of the aorta relative to the cardiac motion. The idea was confirmed by an analysis of the echocardiograph images of several samples. A home-made mechanical model was also employed to simulate the effect of cardiovascular thickness. The experimental results fitted the theory very well, verifying the feasibility of the elastic oscillation model. This measurement could be carried out with the conventional echocardiography instruments, making it convenient and common. Furthermore, the delay time could be measured with TaransThoracic Echo (TTE) instead of TransEsophadeal Echo (TEE). This non-invasion can avoid patients’ discomfort and side effect during medical process. The quantitative measurement also enables that the diagnostics can be progressed in advance.

液態導體的磁效應

本文所探討的議題為電解質溶滿通以電流後所產生的效應與機制。本實驗所採用的方法為電解與電鍍,運用這兩種方法,來比較電解液在不同狀況下所產生的結果;經過多次的實驗,累積了許多實驗結果,使我們可以得到更精確的數據 · 在此次實驗中,我們發現電解液在相同的電壓下,通以電流後的穩定性與金屬的活性有關,活性越大越不穩定;反之,活性越小越穩定。另一個發現為,只有單一極性離子移動的情形,可通過的電流,比陰陽離 r 同時移動時為大;但因通過的電流大使電解液反應劇烈,產物時時覆蓋電極使電流下降。所以就穩定性來說,是以陰陽離子同時移動為佳 · 在展望方面,希望可以發展到液態磁屏避的設備,可減少設備過重之問題 ·This is a study of how electric current effects the electrolyte solution. The experiment was conducted through two methods: electrolysis and electroplating, the results of which were compared. The experiment of the same designs hi been conducted repeatedly and, as a result, accurate data were collected and accumulated.One of the two major findings from the experiments was that, when under the same voltage, stability of the electric current varied with the change of activity of the metals; the greater the activity of the metals, the less stability of the current, and vice versa. The other major finding was that, with the movement of dipole-ion, a greater amount of current would go through the solution than that which would go through with the movement of cathode and anode; however, the greater amount of current would cause intense reaction of electrolyte solution, hence merging the electrode and reducing the current. So as long as stability is concerned, the movement of cathode and anode is preferable.It is hoped that more sophisticated experiments designed on the basis of the similar principles will eventually lead to the construction of equipment of liquid-magnetic shielding of smaller weight and size.

平方數列

本研究探討的主題是:給定正整數n,是否存在1~n的重排數列,使得「相鄰兩項之和都是平方數」。對於滿足上述條件的數列,我們稱其為平方數列,我們探討哪些n使得1~n可排成平方數列。對於某類的正整數n,我們已找到構造平方數列的方法: 1.若正整數a, b, c及k=0, 1, 2, 4滿足a>b,a2+b2-k2=c2且(a2-k, b2-k)=1,則1~a2-1可排成平方數列。 2.若正整數a, b, c, α, β滿足a>c>b,b2+c2=α2,a2+c2=β2且(a2-b2, c2)=1,則1~a2-1可排成平方數列。再者,我們可以證明n=2、3、4、5、6、7、8、9、10、11、12、13、14、18、19、20、21、22、24時,1~n無法排成平方數列;藉由有效率的程式運算,我們得知n=15、16、17、23及n=25、26、...、144時,1~n可排成平方數列。若平方數列的首尾兩項相加也是完全平方數時,我們將其定義為平方項鍊。我們造出1~32的平方項鍊,進而可知 1~32排成平方數列的方法至少有32種。對於特定的n,我們可將1~n排成平方項鍊;而我們更證明出,n=32是可將1~n排成平方項鍊的最小正整數。

恆定性與呼吸作用.

生物上冊第七章恒定性談到血液中血糖的濃度,通常都維持在一定的範圍以內,過高或過低都會引起疾病。其他,如生物體內水分的調節、定溫動物體溫的調節等,都是生物體內維持恒定性的一些現象。 有關生物行呼吸作用時,呼出氣體的測定,在實驗7─3植物的呼吸作用中,就整個實驗裝置來探討,發現在四十分鐘的實驗觀察過程中,裝置中的漏斗及彎形玻璃管始終都是開放的,而且實驗組與對照組間,結果的比較並不很鮮明,甚至沒有差別。 空氣中氧約佔1/5的體積,氮約佔4/5的體積,其組成分可以說是維持在一定的濃度範圍內(恒定性)。是否可以空氣組成分的恒定性觀念,配合生物呼吸作用釋出的氣體(二氧化碳)的特性,找尋出一種更好而有效的實驗裝置,是探討本實驗的主要動機。
