「可」不「可」以抗氧化-可可抗氧化力之研究
本研究從天然的蔬菜、水果,以及可可、咖啡、茶等沖泡飲品著手,確認可可具有絕佳的抗氧化能力,而天然可可豆需經發酵、烘焙等程序後,其抗氧化效果才顯著。 「無糖、無鹼化」之天然可可粉為主要實驗素材,並以間接碘滴定法測定其抗氧化能力,研究結果顯示,沖泡可可粉的濃度越高,抗氧化效果越好;以高溫水沖泡可可粉釋放出較多的可可多酚,亦能增加抗氧化力;在可可飲品中添加物質,常見的加糖、加奶皆無法增加其抗氧化能力;而市售可可飲品因含添加物較多,其抗氧化能力未如純可可粉來的顯著。 因此,寒冬中,自己動手泡一杯熱可可,以高溫沖泡純可可粉,不加糖、奶等添加物, 直接品嚐香純原始的可可風味,是個不錯的養生保健選擇。

「蓮」「環」密碼--環境因子對蓮花效應的影響
蓮花效應是指蓮葉表面具有奈米纖毛結構,因此只要葉面稍微傾斜,水珠就會滾離葉面,在我們生活週遭,許多植物具有蓮花效應。本實驗選擇彩葉山漆莖作為研究材料,因為我們發現在同一植株上,嫩葉的蓮花效應最佳,而老葉幾乎無蓮花效應。當彩葉山漆莖的新葉轉為老葉,蓮花效應會減弱,甚至消失。我們以不同水量、土壤酸鹼值及光照作為變因,來探討蓮花效應改變的原因,結果發現水量並非主要影響蓮花效應改變的變因;土壤過酸或過鹼,會減弱新葉及嫩葉的蓮花效應;置於暗室則使整株彩葉山漆莖所有葉面皆無蓮花效應。許多植物的性狀,在老化或面臨環境改變時,會將控制性狀的基因開啟或關閉。因此,我們推論,當環境因子改變時,植物的蓮花效應可能是經由基因層次的調控,藉以增強或減弱此性狀的表現。如果不是基因的開啟或關閉,則有可能僅是葉表面的結構發生些微的改變,真正詳細的機制仍有待進一步的確認。;We choose Breynia nivosa (Bull ex W. G. Smith) Small as a model plant to study the lotus effect on the leaves for the reason that on the same chosen plant the new-born leaves have the best lotus effect while the elder ones have little lotus effect. When the new leaves turns into elder ones, the lotus effect also turns weaker or even vanishes. To explore the exact mechanisms, we take water quantity、soil pH、and light density as the experimental factors. The results show that water quantity cannot affect the lotus effect on all leaves, change in soil pH can decrease the lotus effect on the new and new-born leaves, and dark treatments can eliminate the lotus effect on all leaves. When the environments change, the phenotypes of plants could also be changed to adapt to the new conditions by turning on or off genes. Therefore, we suggest that the lotus effect on the leaves is also controlled by genes to increase or decrease its phentype so as to adapt to the changing environments. If not, it may simply be a little change of the surface structure of the leaves. The detailed mechanism remains to be confirmed further.

Viable Energy From Ocean Waves
(a) Purpose of Research To investigate the wave conditions offshore along the South African coast to determine wave heights, intervals, and patterns. These results have demonstrated the power potential of ocean waves and identified sites for offshore power stations. The waves off of the South African coast are the most viable, as they have wave heights of between 2.7m (9ft) and 14.6m (48ft). It is also to assist in the development of my power station design, through research into offshore wave composition, principles, periods and characteristics. (b) Procedures I have used various calculations including the surface pressure of salt water per square meter to calculate the potential power produced by a buoy. These figures have been expressed in Kilowatt Hours, and are then able to be divided by the known consumption of a single USA household in 1 year. A figure of the amount of households that can be supplied by a single generator will then be reached. An approximate power output for a single buoy is between 200 and 300 homes per year (Dependant on wave height) A concept for a maintenance free electrical generator suitable for marine use has been investigated. The design will be made as: ● A working demonstration model capable of producing electricity, which consists of a Rotary Induction Generator, ● a scale model to show the appearance of one such generator & ● A large scale model to show how generators can be congregated to form a power station offshore. (c) Data Utilising the calculations of potential power output and the wave data, the financial viability of the generator has been calculated, in relation to current fossil fuel power stations, down to a cost per Kilowatt. Wave data from international marine monitoring websites that provide real time wave condition graphs, have been tracked by myself daily for over 1 month and recorded to provide a large data resource. This provides wave heights of multiple weather systems as well as averages. Costs have been investigated from Internet sources for electrical integration to the national power grid, as well as the generator manufacture. These are estimates, as the exact specifications of my device cannot be finalised without further prototypical research. (d) Conclusion With conclusions reached by thorough research into wave dynamics, weather patterns and their effects on wave heights, Rotary induction power generation and costs related to multiple power systems, I intend to demonstrate fully to the International Electrical Producers, that coal fired power plants are more costly and environmentally damaging than my revolutionary concept for a truly economically viable, ocean based generator system.

紫蘇會出現紅葉或綠葉甚至交雜出現的現象,而綠葉品種的白蘇並無此現象,是什麼因素造成?本組以「光照時間、不同色光、照射部位、土壤酸鹼度」來探討紫蘇葉的顏色變化。實驗中發現:葉中紅色部分會從葉脈開始變色,然後由葉脈附近擴展到整片葉子,其中葉背又比葉面快變紅;葉子變綠時會先從葉緣往內開始變綠,最後葉脈才變綠,其中葉面又比葉背快變綠;適度光照(12、16小時)紫蘇,紅色產生的快且紅,光照少則紅色不易出現;照射單一色光時,藍色色光最有利於紫蘇色素產生,雙色光比單一色光更容易使葉片變紅;紅色色素的產生並不受其他部位的葉子的影響;土壤的酸鹼度,對紫蘇葉片顏色的產生沒有影響。

清潔劑有親水基與親油基兩部分的結構,在有機溶劑或水溶液中都有溶解性,為了證明其界面間轉移的現象、測量離子在界面間轉移速度及探討不同離子轉移的選擇性,我們設計了離子界面間轉移的測量方法。首先利用氧化還原反應證明其界面間轉移現象,清潔劑可以與離子化合物結合,而溶於有機相中,達成界面間轉移,在另一個水相中釋放並反應。且知道清潔劑與分子化合物不反應。利用沉澱反應實驗,左右兩式管裝著不同陰陽離子時,可以了解清潔劑對於陽離子之結合選擇性,高於結合陰離子。在導電度實驗中,可以測定對不同陽離子之選擇性。為了證明我們所推論的反應機構,也嘗試取得其錯合化合物,從晶形及溶解度推斷該是錯合物無疑。

現在柴油引擎車可以使用生質柴油可說是現今科技的一大突破,所謂生質柴油是利用動物脂肪、植物油或者烹飪廢油等合成出來。使用上述的物質,自己也可以在家中合成出生質柴油。目前生質柴油通常都是使用大豆油當作合成原料,這些大豆油都是處理大豆時要丟掉的副產物。用來合成生質柴油也不會造成額外成本負擔,可為相當具有經濟效益。所謂生質能是一種再生能源,它和水力發電、風力發電、太陽能發電一樣具有取之不盡、用之不竭的特性。生質能目前是全球第四大能源,僅次於石油、煤、天然氣。但這三者皆為非再生能源,生質能是目前使用最為廣泛的再生能源。

In this research, we investigated the interactions between goldfish’ (Carassius auratus) sensory experiences (electric shock, high osmotic pressure and colors). We separated the sensory experiences into two parts. One of them, we used different kinds of environmental color-models to analyze goldfish’s environmental preference behavior and different kinds of stress experience(electric shock and high osmotic pressure) to build the animal model of environmental preference behavior. We found that goldfish prefer brown-colored environment (compared with white) and different stress has different effects on fish’s environmental preference behavior. It proves that fish has the ability to learn and memorize the stress experience and shows that there are complicated interactions among environmental stimulus, memories of stress and behaviors caused by different kinds of stress. Also, we investigated the interactions between spatial memory and color distinction. We measured the duration of goldfish getting through the color-marked barriers driven by regular electric shock. We found that goldfish spend less time to get through color-marked barriers than those unmarked. It shows that there are some interactions between spatial memory and color distinction. In conclusion, the research proves that different sensory experiences can affect goldfish’s behaviors.本實驗利用感官經驗(電擊、高滲透壓、色彩),探討與朱文錦(Carassius auratus)行為調控的交互作用。我們將感官經驗分成兩模式:利用環境色彩特徵的差異,探討不同逆境刺激經驗(施予電擊或高滲透壓環境),與魚類環境偏好行為的交互作用,建立朱文錦環境偏好行為之動物模式。我們發現朱文錦偏好土色環境(相對於白色環境),而不同性質的逆境經驗,對魚類的環境偏好行為具有不同的影響,顯示魚類具有記憶逆境環境的學習能力,且證明「環境刺激—經驗(記憶)—行為表現」三者之間具複雜的交互作用。另外,我們亦探討空間記憶與色彩辨識的交互作用,利用規律的電擊刺激使朱文錦通過有色彩標示的關卡,以研究色彩差異與空間變化對朱文錦通過關卡能力的影響。我們發現色彩的標示可降低通過關卡的時間,且不同的色彩具不同程度的效果,顯示空間記憶與色彩辨識具交互作用。本實驗證明了不同的感官經驗或刺激,對朱文錦的行為調控具質與量的差異。

湖光山色下的哀愁--由漂浮的琵琶鼠魚探討外來入侵種與放生行為
本研究自2005 年12 月開始,以臺北市內湖區大湖自公園死亡的漂浮琵琶鼠魚(Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish )為主要研究對象,探討外來物種與放生行為對大湖生態系的影響。 研究期間共觀察到死亡的琵琶鼠魚隻數計有1085 隻,可記錄到個體形質資料的隻數為910 隻,背鰭棘數則有11 棘、12 棘、13 棘與14 棘四種,分析四種不同棘數的琵琶鼠魚後發現:在體長、頭寬及吻到背鰭長度均無差異(p>0.05),因此判斷所記錄的個體應是棘甲鯰科(Loricariidae) Pterygoplichthys 屬中的同一種魚種。由檢視魚體並分析記錄數量與環境因子相關性後推測:琵琶鼠魚死亡主因是劇烈起伏的溫度差異,其次是人為因素的刻意傷害。 所記錄到大湖池塘水棲動物有:環節動物、軟體動物、節肢動物、魚類、兩棲動物及爬行動物等六大類共34 種,其中外來物種有16 種,本地入侵物種有3 種,而這些外來動物進入大湖的主要管道應是由個人的棄養或放生行為所造成。琵琶鼠魚因繁殖能力強、具攻擊性、吞食其他魚種卵塊、可適應高污染水體及垂釣客對魚種的篩選等因素,而成為最具生存競爭能力的優勢魚種。不但造成大湖池塘呈現嚴重魚種單一化,更可由靜止水域大量擴散至流動水域。未來如何將政府相關部門、學術研究單位與民間社團等力量結合,共同防範大湖琵琶鼠魚的持續蔓延、宣導民眾正確的放生觀念、積極改善大湖水體污染狀況,並訂定完整之外來物種移除計畫,以期恢復大湖池塘物種歧異度,都將是刻不容緩的重要生態課題。;This research began in December of 2005. Focusing on dead floating Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish in Dahu Park, Nei-hu Distrct, Taipei city. We discuss the impacts of Alien and of behaviors of the release of captured animals on Dahu Park’s ecosystem. During observation period, there were totally 1085 dead Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish, of which 910 bodies were found. The number of the thorn bushes on dorsal fins includes 11, 12, 13,and 14. After analyzing four kinds of different thorn bushes, we find that no differences exist in Total length, Head width, Predorsal length (p>0.05). We hence conclude that the recorded object should be species with identical with Loricariidae Pterygoplichthys. With the inspection of the fish’s body and the analysis of the relevance of the recorded quantity and the environmental factor, we infer that the main reason of the Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish’s death is violent temperature differences and the second is attributed to human’s intentional abuse. The aquatic animals of Dahu Park amount to 34 kinds and six classes such as Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Pisces, Amphobian, and Reptilia. Among them, 16 kinds that are Alien and 3 kinds are Native Invasive Species. Intentional abandon and release behavior channel of these Alien to Dahu Park. Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish are highly productive, aggressive, and adaptable to highly polluted water. Besides, they eat ovums from other fishes. Moreover, they are not the fisher’s preference and hence often thrown back into pond once hooked . Thus, they become the most competitive survival fish species in Dahu Park. The high competitive ability of Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish causes Dahu Park to present a serious unification of fish species. This serious unification of fish species could also be spread from static water areas of Dahu Park to flowing water areas. According to our research, certain urgent ecological issues in Dahu Park are to take precautions against the spread of Many-rayed Sailfin Sucker Catfish, to promote the correct idea of releasing captured animals, to improve Dahu Park’s water pollution, and to stipulate a complete plan about eliminating Alien. Our research suggest that government’s relevant departments, academic research units, and folk corporations should be cooperated to achieve the above four goals. Once the four goals are achieved, we believe that the fish species of Dahu Park will be full of varieties again.

免費空氣污染偵測器- 地衣與環境污染的探討
高中課程中課本提到的地衣類植物,而我們平常看到樹幹上的灰綠色附生植物可能為地衣。經我們在校園內的初步觀察,發現在靠近交通往來頻繁的校門口區域的地衣生長量趨近於零,而相差不到100 公尺行政大樓旁的樹木,卻發現了其樹幹上分佈著許多地衣,其懸殊的生長狀態,引起了我們的注意:地衣的生長分布代表了什麼意義呢?\r 我們希望藉由實地的生物觀察,並結合簡單的實驗對地衣作深一層的認識,進而發展出一套戶外空氣污染程度之指標辨別系統。\r

我們以電腦程式控制喇叭的聲音頻率,並利用保利龍球的跳動來觀測音叉及金屬片的共振(鳴)現象:、實驗發現音叉、金屬片都有多個共振頻率的情形,而共振頻率彼此之間呈簡單的數學比例關係。、我們利用操縱變因的方式,研究了長度、寬度、厚度、溫度等因素對共振(鳴)頻率的影響。發現隨著長度、寬度減少,共振頻率反而增高;隨著溫度上升,共振頻率反而下降。、移動保利龍球和金屬片的接觸位置,可以測得各點的振動強度,進而繪成振動的駐波波形。縱向(y)上的駐波波形是由多個振動模式的混合組成,這實驗結果可由混波的理論數值作圖印証。研究振動波形,可以得到平面波速的資訊。研究顯示,不同材料有不同的波速。

微波爐測光速之迷思?-微波干涉的探討
在微波爐內,微波經由內壁的反射,和原來的波形成干涉的現象。有資料指出:藉由此特性,我們可利用微波爐來測量光速。本實驗旨在探討微波在微波爐中的干涉形式,利用巧克力及氯化亞鈷,測量爐內微波振幅強弱的分佈。實驗發現:微波加熱後巧克力上的熱點以及塗有氯化亞鈷溶液紙巾上的條紋,皆顯示微波在其中有穩定的干涉現象。雖然其形式頗為複雜,但是利用虛擬鏡像波源的探討,可得到和結果相近的分析。

帽子戲法-台灣四種鳳仙花花朵構造與授粉昆蟲之觀察
:台灣共有四種鳳仙花科植物,棣慕華鳳仙花;黃花鳳仙花;紫花鳳仙花為特有種,另一為入侵種的非洲鳳仙花。台灣原生的鳳仙花花朵形成圓筒形並具有長花距,雄蕊聯合形成帽子將雌蕊蓋住以防止自花授粉,白天主要授粉者皆為黃色熊蜂(Bombusflavescens F. Smith),花朵套袋以及自花授粉發現黃花、紫花鳳仙花皆無法結果,對於授粉蜂具有高度依賴性,棣慕華鳳仙花則具有很高的自花授粉能力,對授粉蜂的依賴性較黃花、紫花鳳仙花為低。三種鳳仙花花朵長度、寬度與花距長度皆與黃色熊蜂體長、體寬及口器長度高度相關,推測台灣三種鳳仙花經長期演化,形成授粉高度專一化的現象。非洲鳳仙花花朵平展並具花距,可提供大型昆蟲停留。雄蕊同樣聯合將雌蕊蓋住以防止自花授粉,經套袋隔絕授粉者發現對於對於授粉昆蟲具有高度依賴性,授粉昆蟲隨海拔高度、地區而有所不同,其授粉昆蟲非常多樣,具有較高的環境適應性。
