每次上實習課時,為了要讓工件達到精確的尺寸,總是要準備很多支的分厘卡,導致工具箱很重,於是我開始著手於研究改善的方法,想要擁有游標卡尺的快速和分厘卡的精準度,於是設計出了這把能省時、省力、和省錢的量具,也達到了當初所期望的游標卡尺的快速和分厘卡的精準度,另外還多了許多不同的功能,例如量內徑和深度等,加上主軸可以依需求無限延伸,所以在未來有很大的發展空間。

經濟實用的充磁器

自然科教室裡有許多磁捧和馬蹄形磁鐵,整箱的磁鐵用了很多年,磁性非常微弱,上課的時候,效果很差。我們想、能不能研究一種簡單的方法,使這些磁鐵恢復磁力呢?這樣老師和同學上課的時候,就有磁鐵可用了。於是和幾位同學開始研究。

竹蟬是胡琴的老祖宗-探究弦樂器的構造、發聲方式及製作簡易絃樂器-竹蟬是我們喜愛的童玩之一。由玩竹蟬的遊戲,我們發現它是自然課本有關「聲的現象」探討的好教材。「聲的現象」佔一至六年級自然課本4/78(5.1﹪);顯示它是特別重要的題材,因此我們決定深入研究。首先,我們收集與主題相關的參考資料,發現在第37 屆全國科學展覽會中有研究「竹蟬變聲術」的作品。經過了解,它的作品內容探討範圍很小,只針對「竹蟬材質和聲音的關係」作研究。在實驗過程中,祇準備13 個用竹子鋸成2.5 公分的竹筒和紙筒13 段,而我們共準備了上百個各種竹蟬,同時變因控制也較客觀(規格一致),他們製作的有些材質的竹蟬實驗極限圈數,只有1 圈或5 圈,就在十多種材質中,比出高低頻順序,實在難以叫人信服。於是,我們擴大研究範圍:(一) 先針對發聲原理--探討發音的方法和發音的特性。(二) 再藉由它來尋找絃樂器的發音特性。(三)進而利用它來自製簡單絃樂器--胡琴。實驗過程中,我們採用較實際明確的方法--創新的聽判法(二分法)噪音測量器;同時,各種材質的竹蟬實驗極限圈數,都必須60 圈以上。經過我們對竹蟬、胡琴深入研究後,發現:(一) 竹蟬和胡琴的發聲方式與發音特性相同。(二) 不同的是:胡琴可以用手指壓住絃的位置,控制它的高低頻,奏出美妙的歌曲。竹蟬就是無法隨心控制它的高低頻,因此無法奏出美妙的歌曲。依據以上的實驗歸納,由無法控制高低頻的竹蟬,進步到可以控制高低頻的胡琴。我們可以說:竹蟬是胡琴的老祖宗。

Investigation of phytoremediative ability of macrophytes and a design of a phytofiltration system for Singapore’s waterways

"Nitrates and phosphates cause eutrophication when present in high concentrations.\r This project aims to employ macrophytes to reduce such macronutrients in water bodies via growth and kinetic studies, which is a unique fusion of methodologies. It also involves a novel design and analysis of several enclosure prototypes to introduce macrophytes into waterways and their effects on the waterway’s ability to convey storm water rapidly away from flood-prone areas.\r Tropical macrophytes (emergent macrophytes Typha angustifolia and Cyperus haspan, submerged macrophytes Hydrilla verticillata and Cabomba aquatica, floating macrophytes Lemna minor) were grown in simulated wastewater with high nitrate and phosphate concentrations. Analysis of the growth and uptake kinetics of the macrophytes showed a correlation between high growth rate and high nitrates and phosphates uptake. C. aquatica had the highest uptake rate for nitrates and phosphates as well as the highest growth rate of 6.11 ± 1.2 % day-1 . The remaining macrophytes were proven to exhibit good phytoremediative properties, with emergent macrophytes C. haspan and T. angustifolia having great affinity (as indicated by a low Km value) for phosphate and nitrate respectively. An analysis of the phytoremediative abilities of each macrophyte was done to provide recommendations for growth in different aquatic areas.\r A total of eight nettings, made from different materials-linen and plastic, and pore sizes were used to design the enclosure prototypes. These enclosures possess a metal skeletal structure for greater stability. Results show that a combination of 2 different nettings provided the best trade-off between ensuring that the macrophytes were contained within the enclosures and minimising the enclosure’s impact on the flow velocity of the waterways. Enclosures could then be attached to existing infrastructure like the float booms as a platform for large scale phytoremediation locally."

玫瑰紅中的玄機-維生素C定量方法之改良

我們發現實驗課本所採用的維生素 C 定量方法有兩個缺點:(1)樣品「過濾」的時間長,(2)澄清度低,滴定終點不易明確判斷。本研究發現改用「離心」的前處理方法,可有效改善過濾法的缺點,而且經離心法處理的樣品,其維生素 C 含量最接近原汁。本研究也發現,將滴定用的靛酚溶液加過量,所呈現的玫瑰紅色,會因樣品中維生素 C 含量不同,而有色澤深淺的變化,若改用分光光度計測定樣品的吸光度,將吸光度的值代入維生素 C 的檢量線方程式中,就可計算出維生素 C 的含量。最後,分別將各種果汁樣品,添加已知量的維生素 C 在其中,結果發現「分光光度計法」的精準性並不比「靛酚滴定法」差,所以「分光光度計法」是一種快速且精準度佳的改良方法。

蛙!到底發生了什麼事?探討溪谷生態系畸形蛙的發生原因及其生態學之研?

Our research started from June, 2003 to May, 2004. During these twelve months, we collected and discussed the basic ecology material of malformed “ Rana latouchii ”, which we call it frog in the following paragraphs . Thanks for the favorable geographical position, we collected the first-hand data in the area of Jin-Mian Mountain foothill gully situated in Taipei. Our investtigation project includes:the percentage of the malformed frogs in a whole race, the geographical distribution of dominant-abnormal frogs, the sexual distribution of dominant-abnormal forgs, and the possible roots for the generation of malformed frogs. We have altogether carried seventy-six times field investigations. In those investigations, we focused our research on the randomly-sampled 580 Rana latouchii. In these 580 sample, there are 190 female, 350 male, and 40 adolescent. We discovered seventy-six malformed frogs, constituteed by 21 female, 53 male and 2 adolescent. In another words, the occurance of malformed frog in a race is around 13.1. %. In our observation, we can classify dominant-abnormal frogs, “Rana latouchii”, into eight species. Here are the species: 1. the entire body is obviously malformed, 2. with only one eye, 3. in lack of appendage apod, 4. in lack of arms,5. in lack of palms, 6. with excess webbed toes, 7. the maltfromed of appendiculars, 8. the lack of toes on the palms. Within these 8 species, the last species has the highest occurance, 66.38% in aproximation. If we look at the classfication by sex, the ratio of female to male is around 1 to 2.52(1:2.52). However, the possibility of being maleformed is regarded as the same for female and male frogs in the same group. In statistical term, our research shows that the chi-square is 1.742 while our degree of freedom is 1 and confidence level is 95% (X2=1.742,df=1,p>0.05). During the research, we also observe that each malformed species affect different living activities of malformed frogs. In the worst situation, the malformed nature can result in shorter life. In our sampling area, malformed frogs mostly reside in high concealment and high humidity location. In our research data, within these area, our re-captured rate for malformed frogs is 25% and hirudin-parastical rate is 4.31%. As our research shows, the occurance of malformed “Rana latouchii” in our selected area results from 3 main causes: First, the parasitism of leeches or parasitic worm;Second, the agriculturally chemical contaminants;Third , the injured causes from escape from predator. 本研究自2003年6 月至2004年5月為止,共12個月的期間,於臺北市內湖區金面山南麓溪谷,對拉都希氏蛙(Rana latouchii)族群之畸形蛙個體進行基本生態資料的蒐集與探討,調查項目包括:族群中畸形蛙發生的比例、畸形蛙外部形質異常分佈的情形、族群中雌蛙與雄蛙發生外部形質異常之情況及可能造成畸形蛙產生的原因。 研究期間共進行了76次的野外調查,總紀錄了拉都希氏蛙580隻,雌蛙有190隻,雄蛙有350隻,幼蛙有40隻;畸形蛙個體共紀錄有76隻,雌性畸形蛙有21隻,雄性畸形蛙有53隻,幼體畸形蛙有2隻。族群中畸形蛙發生率約為:13.10%,外部形質異常的畸形拉都希氏蛙總計有八大類,包括:1.整隻個體形質畸形,2.單眼個體,3.附肢缺少,4.附肢缺臂,5.附肢缺掌,6.腳掌多趾,7.附肢腳掌畸形,8.附肢腳掌缺趾,其中以附肢腳掌缺趾類的66.38%發生率最高。畸形蛙中雌雄比約為1:2.52,族群中雌蛙與雄蛙發生畸形的比例並無顯著的差異(X2=1.742,df=1,p>0.05)。 不同部位形質畸形的發生,將會影響畸形蛙的個體活動,甚至可能降低畸形蛙的存活機率。研究調查樣區中,畸形蛙較常活動於濕度高且隱蔽度大的分樣區中,畸形蛙的重複捕捉率為25%,被水蛭寄生的比例則約是4.31%。 由調查研究結果顯示,造成內湖金面山區南麓溪谷拉都希氏蛙畸形蛙發生的主要原因,推測可能有下列幾種:(1)水蛭或是吸蟲類的寄生;(2)農作過程中的化學污染物;(3)逃脫掠食者捕食過程受傷。

微陣列基因分析法探討心肌細胞在機械性展延下的基因表現

高血壓所誘發的機械性展延是造成心肌肥大的基本因子,本實驗即藉由微陣列基因分析法同時大量的分析機械性展延所造成心肌細胞的基因表現。將新生鼠的心肌細胞施以 20﹪的機械性展延,抽取其 mRNA製作成 cDNA 探針與現成的 cDNA 晶片進行雜漬反應 (此晶片上包含了 480個如訊息傳遞、控制細胞生長週期、細胞骨架等的已知基因),在眾多有因為機械性展延而造成基因表現差異的基因中,我們選擇了 eNOS 基因(內皮細胞 NO合成?)進行西方墨點法及 NOS活性和 NO 產生量測定的實驗,進一步證實 eNOS 的基因表現量的確是增加的,此一結果與微陣列基因分析所得之結果不謀而合。 Mechanical stretch induced by high blood pressure is an initial factor laeding to cardiac\r hypertrophy. The use of cDNA microarrays has made it possible to simultaneously analyze\r stretch-induced gene expression in cardiomyocytes. Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were cultured on\r malleable silicone dishes and were stretched by 20%. We compared the transcript profiles of\r cardiomyocytes under mechanical stretch for 60 minutes by hybridization of cell-derived cDNA to\r DNA probes immobilized on microarrays. The microarrays contained probes for 480 known genes\r including signal transduction, cell cycle regulators, cytoskeleton and cell motility, and so on. Eighteen\r genes were indentified that showed significantly differential expression in response to mechanical\r stretch in cardiomyocytes. Of the represented genes expressed, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS)\r genes was the most interesting one. Northern blot and western blot analysis further quantified the\r expression of eNOS gene. Mechanical stretch also increased constitutive NOS activity and NO\r production. Our results indicate that mechanical stretch induces eNOS gene expression thus increases\r constitutive NOS activity and NO production in cardiomyocytes.

Powerless Shack Cooler

Purpose of Project: To save energy and to help the underprivileged with a cooler that uses no electricity to make their lives better. Procedure/method followed: STEP 1: Collected 28, used, 2 litre plastic bottles. STEP 2: Chose the window with the best wind flow. Measured the size of the window and the room chosen. STEP 3: A sturdy thick polystyrene board was cut to the size of the window. Holes were drilled to the rim size of the bottles spacing them according to the body size of the bottles. STEP 4: Bottles were cut in half. STEP 5: The bottle necks were slid through the holes with the necks open to the inside of the room and the bodies open to the outside. STEP 6: Fixed a thermometer in the room and measured the temperature and recorded it. STEP 7: Fixed the Powerless Shack Cooler with the necks of the bottles open to the inside and the bodies open to the outside of the room. STEP 8: The temperature variation was checked and recorded every 30 minutes for 3 hours. STEP 9: Another room of the same size and window was also chosen. Fixed a thermometer and temperature variation was checked and recorded every 30 minutes for 3 hours. This served as the control of the experiment. Data/results: The room temperature decreased over time inside the room where the Powerless Shack Cooler was installed onto the window. But the control room maintained the initial room temperature although slight fluctuations in the room temperature were observed over time. Conclusion: The hypothesis was supported. As the air molecules moved through the bottles, it bounced off each other, and off the walls of the container, holding the air. A small volume of air passed at a high velocity. When the molecules moved faster the collision became more often. These collisions and the push increased air pressure. When the container’s space was getting smaller, the molecules picked up speed and the temperature went up. When the air was released out into the room, the volume suddenly expanded. The intermolecular spaces became larger; so less agitation and vibration of molecules took place. The molecules moved slowly. The room temperature reduced. Air inside the room became cooler. During the adiabatic expansion, air molecules used heat energy from the room and converted it into kinetic energy for faster movement.

龍捲風(Tornado)形成之理論探討及模型建立

曾看過一部電影叫做「龍捲風」,是由史蒂芬史匹柏導演拍攝,影片中之龍捲風精彩壯觀,橫掃過的地方,滿目瘡痍,造成很大的損失,全劇描述一位科學家由遭遇突如其來且威力強大的龍捲風而毀損,長大後立志從事龍捲風的研究救人,她和她的隊友們冒著生命危險正面進入暴風圈,成功投放測試器,從而了解龍捲風的構造,進而希望建立龍捲風警報系統,那種鍥而不捨的精神和意志力令人印象深刻; 然而我們在台灣僅偶而聽到新竹、嘉義、左營等地方曾發生龍捲風的新聞報導,卻不易親眼看到,於是我們想:何不製作一個可以產生龍捲風的模型,讓同學們想看能看到,那就太炫了!

寒天裡的石蓮花~加熱時間對石蓮花抗氧化活性之探討

近年來,隨著國人健康意識抬頭,食品以「自然」為訴求,天然抗氧化物質的研究也應運而生,因此有關石蓮花具抗氧化能力之研究報告相繼被發表,但關於其加工特性之研究卻甚少,故本研究之目的主要是探討加熱時間對石蓮花汁液抗氧化活性的影響,以求對其加工特性有進一步的了解,並將其與洋菜結合,開發新的機能性食品。實驗結果顯示,石蓮花汁液具有碘酒還原能力,且其經過加熱處理後仍能保有碘酒還原能力。進行清除DPPH自由基試驗之結果顯示,無論是未加熱或加熱後的石蓮花汁液皆具有高達九成以上的清除能力,故證實石蓮花汁液適用於加熱加工上的應用。將石蓮花汁液應用於洋菜凍試驗中,發現其可提供良好的色澤、非水溶性膳食纖維與抗氧化能力於新產品中。

鐵基奈米顆粒製程及物性分析

超導體具有兩大特性 - 抗磁性及零電阻,若善加利用便能大量減少能量損\r 失。不過目前發現的超導體有的結構太複雜,其他則是臨界溫度太低。一年前科\r 學家發現不同於以往銅氧組成的鐵基超導體(FeSe),結構簡單但其臨界溫度仍\r 然太低。故我們利用原料濃度比例不同的Fe 及Se 以TOPO 熱熔法析出奈米顆\r 粒,分析其超導性質。結果顯示Fe 比Se 難析出,故Fe 濃度應比Se 多,且在油\r 性水域中較好混合。
