神奇魔法牆-尋找最佳氣泡牆模型

近年河川或海上塑膠垃圾與油汙對環境造成傷害,解決環境污染備受重視。近期荷蘭用-大氣泡屏障,成功將塑膠垃圾阻攔,因此我們興起了「尋找最佳氣泡牆模型」。本研究目的為:分析「氣泡牆形狀、氣泡間隔以及氣泡大小」是否影響攔阻效果。結果發現:1.凹向水源300弧線氣泡牆攔阻效果最佳;2.氣泡越小間距越小,攔阻效果越好,此與荷蘭研究員論點相呼應;3.相較於形狀固定的塑膠垃圾,形狀會變的油汙較難攔阻;4.具厚度氣泡牆,攔阻效果更勝多道獨立的氣泡牆;5.「緊鄰的兩道300弧線氣泡牆」的攔阻效果是目前我們所做的模型中效果最好的。因此我們建議,未來在實際運用氣泡牆攔阻汙染源時,可採用此模式解決環境污染問題。

Solving Mathematical and Chemical Equations using Python

Max Gold's project, titled “Solving Mathematical and Chemical Equations using Python”, is a website comprising of 4 main programmes: one to find the smallest possible combination of two chemical compounds or elements; a self-made parsing function to convert a chemical equation into a matrix, then using Gaussian-Jordan elimination to find coefficients for an equation; a programme to parse a mathematical expression and use that parsed expression in algebraic division of an algebraic dividend of nth degree polynomial by a divisor of 1st degree polynomial; finally, a programme to solve binomial equations for the power s∈Q. This website was originally made so that Max Gold could improve his programming skills for GCSE computer science but expanded to incorporate his passion for chemistry and maths and thus allow others to use these programmes to help them with their problems as well. A problem with many conventional calculator websites is their lack of specificity – they tend to be able to compute some functions but not all. These programmes are tailored to GCSE and A level maths and chemistry, meaning this website provides an outlet to compute specific topics of problems.

Cross-lingual Information Retrieval

In this project, we evaluate the effectiveness of Random Shuffling in the Cross Lingual Information Retrieval (CLIR) process. We extended the monolingual Word2Vec model to a multilingual one via the random shuffling process. We then evaluate the cross-lingual word embeddings (CLE) in terms of retrieving parallel sentences, whereby the query sentence is in a source language and the parallel sentence is in some targeted language. Our experiments on three language pairs showed that models trained on a randomly shuffled dataset outperforms randomly initialized word embeddings substantially despite its simplicity. We also explored Smart Shuffling, a more sophisticated CLIR technique which makes use of word alignment and bilingual dictionaries to guide the shuffling process, making preliminary comparisons between the two. Due to the complexity of the implementation and unavailability of open source codes, we defer experimental comparisons to future work.

Line Following Waiter Robot

Technology is erratic. We never know what could be the next big thing. Nowadays, IoT (the internet of things) has taken over the market. Every technology created nowadays is somehow related to IoT. You should manage to connect the IoT technology with a robust area of hospitality. Catering customers' needs during peak hours at any restaurant or cafe could get overwhelmed with hectic tasks such as taking orders, fetching water, and ordering meals. We created a raw model to accommodate the limitations of the human mind. The technology-based IoT (Internet of things) can come in handy during hectic sessions. A Robot waiter is built from scratch using materials like Arduino (2), Gear DC motor (2), L298N motor driver (1), Ultrasonic sensor (2), IR sensor (2), Servo motor (4) HC-05 Bluetooth module. Desired orders are sent on a wireless network through the menu bar to the kitchen. Then, the robots transfer the food from the kitchen to the customers. The floor will be all white, while there will be a strip of black line to connect every sitting and the kitchen. For instance, if table number three is to be served, we click the number three in the app, which renders an obstacle in table 3. The motor barricades the robot, and the ultrasonic sensors sense it, and it stops. If anyone picks the plate, the ultrasonic sensor senses it, the blockage is removed, and the robot paces in the designated path. People visited the place more often to experience such stimuli. Using the robots attracted more customers and made the work very quick.

尋找木瓜病原菌的天然抑菌劑與抑菌機制

我們在潰爛的木瓜中純化出Lasiodiplodia theobromae與Neofusicoccum parvum兩種真菌,會使木瓜組織產生軟腐之現象,容易造成水果採收及運送時的大量損失。研究結果顯示,兩菌亦會感染其他植物,但部分具濃烈氣味的植物有較高的耐受性且薰衣草氣味可使該二菌種的菌絲與黑色素含量下降,藉以降低致病力。其中,薰衣草氣味中的芳樟醇是抑菌的關鍵成分。此外我們發現無光環境會誘導病原菌的黑色素累積並提升其致病力。綜上所述,未來在木瓜運送與保存上若能透過照光並配合薰蒸微量薰衣 草精油或芳樟醇氣味,應可有效降低病原菌感染機率,以此減少農損。

Investigating the application of nanotechnology for detecting fishes hatching time

Introduction: Using advanced technologies such as nanotechnology in the food and fishery industry, as one of the most important industrial sectors of countries, has received too much attention. Traditionally, fishing and hunting have been considered important sources of supplying food. The subject and methodology: The study aims to investigate nanotechnology for detecting fish hatching time. This is a review article that collects the information from databases such as Sid, civilica, and Google Scholar. In the end, 22 papers were studied for extracting and collecting the required information from the abovementioned scientific database. Finding: After examining the food, drug, and agricultural-related papers published from 2009 to 2020, it was concluded that small Nano-sensors, controlling & monitoring systems made from nanotechnology can be installed on fishing nets, fishing rods, and other fishing equipment. These devices (Nano-sensors and controlling & monitoring systems) will help fishes so that they don’t get caught. In this way, as a fish gets close to the fishing equipment, it will receive sound, smell, or heat-based alarm. Therefore, the fish will stay away from the fishing equipment. The result: according to the finding of this study, it can be concluded that excessive fishing in the hatching time will be avoided by the application of nanotechnology in the fishing equipment. As a result, the following advantages will be secured: 1- There are lots of opportunists who misuse fish during the hatching time. With the application of nanotechnology, they will be stopped. 2- Opportunists are ambushing in different time points to misuse fish. Also, the guards might be ignorant. With the application of nanotechnology, guards are no longer required. 3- This plant is cost-effective too.

Territorial behaviour of the Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) during autumn migration and wintering in the urban environment of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic

In the present paper I studied the winter territories of the Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) in the urban environment of the city of Hradec Králové. The males of this species were detected through the aggressive reactions to the playback of its conspecific call. The Eurasian Wren territories were detected at seven out of the ten observation points in the city. The frequency of the territories decreased during the observation period from October to January and it was also affected by the structure of the biotope. It seemed that the wrens preferred trees and avoided lawns and isolated growths. That illustrates how important it is to maintain wildlife corridors in the cities. Individuals of seven other bird species were seen reacting to the playback of Eurasian Wren songs or warning calls. Eurasian Wren may be applied as an indicator species of the ecological value of the urban environment. Through this species, we can access such quality also for the human inhabitants.

A New Method For Microplastic Removal and Optical Measurement

Microplastics are tiny invisible plastic pieces that are piling up in the marine environment emerging as one of the many environmental issues which our planet is facing today. Researches for the removal of these particles are important because studies that have been made so far haven't come up with an effective solution. This project aimed to detect microplastics and remove them from aqueous environments with an effective and practical method then it was aimed to determine the removal amount of microplastics by optical measurements with the developed system. Firstly, the magnetic carbonanotubes (m-CNT) which is intended to hold onto the surfaces of microplastics was synthesized and added to the mixture of microplastics. Then the magnet within a glass tube was passed through the mixture and the sample was cleared of microplastics. A spectrometer was made to monitor this process and after its calibration, it was used to measure coffees with different concentrations. It has been shown that their concentrations can be determined by calculating the transmission values and Rayleigh scattering. In the end, it has shown that there are no micro or nano-sized plastic particles when removed with M-CNT, within the accountable range of the spectrometer that had been made. The Reproduction success of the Cyprinidae and a Claridae fish species and its impact on small- scale fisheries

To investigate the reproduction success and natural recruitment of several Cyprinidae fish and Claridae fish species in the Allemanskraal Dam. The purpose of the project included investigating whether each individual fish species studied has a successful 2020/2021 spawning season in comparison with each other. Sections of the seine net were measured along with a distance of 10 along the shoreline. The ends of the seine nets were attached to one foot and the top of the net was held by hand. Both volunteers moved in unison while covering the 10m. The volunteer in the “deep end” moved towards the shoreline creating a semi-circle while the other volunteer remained stationary. The two ends of the net were then pulled onto the shore and the fish were collected. The results found that the Labeo Umbratus and Cyprinus carpio had the most successful spawning seasons with the highest recorded numbers. These high numbers of the Labeo Umbratus can be due to the fact that the species lays a large number of eggs. The high numbers of the Cyprinus carpio is due to the lower numbers of the other fish species as previous studies have shown that the species negatively impacts the environment which could in turn negatively impact the other fish species. The Claridae gariepinus and Labeobarbus aeneusas were the lowest. The low numbers of the Labeobarbus aneusas may be due to their slow growth and late maturity rate. The Labeo capensis had an average number relative to the other species and this is due to the fact that during the sampling period the dam was at 100% capacity as this is essential for the survival of the juvenile fish. The hypothesis was accepted as the Labeo Umbratus, Cyprinus carpio and Labeo capensis all have a successful spawning season. However, due to the size of the Cyprinus carpio, they would be most suited for a small scale fishery.

活化石海百合Comanthus parvicirrus所含化學物質探討

本研究針對臺灣恆春半島海域所採集的棘皮動物海百合小卷海齒花Comanthus parvicirrus進行天然物化合物之成分研究,分離獲得三個角型萘並吡喃酮類型天然化合物,包括一個新化合物8-hydroxy-5,6,9,10-tetramethoxy-2-methyl-4H-benzo[h]chromen-4-one (1)以及兩個已知化合物comaparvin (2)與6-methoxycomaparvin-5-methyl ether (3)。上述化合物結構是由核磁共振儀、紅外線光譜儀、紫外光可見光譜儀、x-ray光譜儀和質譜儀等數據,以及比對相關化合物的文獻來分析確認。 化合物1-3進行體外抗發炎活性測試,並且探討化合物對脂多糖 (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) 誘發的小鼠巨噬細胞 (RAW264.7) 所產生的發炎性蛋白質一氧化氮合成酶 (iNOS) 以及第二型環氧化酶 (COX-2)。

高斯光束照射橄欖油產生繞射的研究

高斯光束(Gaussian beam)穿過透明液體時,對液體局部加熱,使液體有溫度梯度,伴隨著產生折射率梯度。葉綠素-a(Chlorophyll-a)乙醇溶液對紫光的熱吸收率為乙醇的數百萬倍,橄欖油的葉綠素-a含量很高,利用高斯光束照射橄欖油時,橄欖油吸收的大量的熱量產生折射率梯度,以及產生熱透鏡(Thermal lens)和自調相(Self-phase modulation)現象。 以雷射光照射橄欖油,由於熱透鏡現象使光束擴張成大亮點(半徑R),由於自調相現象使光束在屏幕上產生繞射圖樣(繞射亮紋數目N)。圓柱筒裝橄欖油(液柱長度a),用不同功率的雷射照射橄欖油,探討吸收的熱量對R和N的影響。另外使光束先經凸透鏡聚光再照射低熱吸收率的色素水溶液做對照比較。
